Julie Baumgart

Class of 2005

Julie Baumgart SMS ’05, St. Joseph High School ’09, Sacred Heart University ’13

Where do you currently live?

What is your current job/year in school?

I have been working at DOCS Medical Group for four years as a marketing associate and love it. I’m responsible for promoting the company by informing many businesses about the medical care that we offer. I also schedule collaboration meetings with outside physicians to discuss our variety of services such as allergy treatment, sleep evaluations, cardiology care, occupational health and many more. With the pandemic, I have been involved in a lot mote administrative work too. Prior to this job I was a associate producer and assignment editor at News 12 Connecticut, and a freelance writer for The Milford Mirror.

What was your educational path after graduating from St. Mary School?

After I graduated I went to Saint Joseph High School and graduated in 2009. I was on the swim team for 4 years, participated in the French Club, the Animal Rescue Club, was a student ambassador, and worked on the stage crew. I then went on to earn my Bachelor’s Degree, Cum Laude, in media studies from Sacred Heart University in 2013, then two years later I earned my Masters at Sacred Heart in digital multimedia journalism. While at SHU I wrote for the university’s magazine and newspaper.

How do you feel SMS prepared you academically?

St. Mary’s prepared me because the work was always challenging. I am very thankful for that because at a young age I worked very hard to get good grades. This prepared me well for high school and college.

Do you feel SMS provided you with a foundation for your future?

I feel St. Mary’s provided me with a foundation for my future because I remember doing a lot of writing in classes like English, religions and history. This is when I realized my talent and love of writing. I became more interested in writing in high school and that’s when I realized this was a field I wanted to go into.

What are some of your favorite memories of SMS?

Definitely the time I had with my friends! I have been best friends with the same people I met in preschool and I still see them all the time. We get together often and I know we will be friends forever.

What advice can you give to our students?

Work your hardest and never give up because all that hard work will definitely pay off in your future. It is also important to recognize and take your skills that you learn at SMS and bring them with you to high school and college.
