As I’m sure you know our Governor has lifted the mask mandate for schools effective February 28.
I just received this from the Superintendent of our Archdiocese Schools:
"It will be the position of the Archdiocese of Hartford for all schools to change their policy to afford parents the choice if they want to send their child to school wearing a mask. Therefore, the continued wearing of masks in school and at school events will be at the discretion of parents/guardians, regardless of vaccination status.
We understand that other dioceses are enforcing the no mask recommendation earlier than February 28th. We have been fortunate that we have established a collaborative and cooperative relationship with CSDE and DPH. We appreciate the open communication and the sharing of resources with our schools. This is a time to stand in solidarity with the state and respect February 28th to commence with the new policy.
Masks may still be required on public transportation, including school buses."
Effective Monday February 28, 2022, masks will be optional at St Mary School. We will also return to eating in the gym on that day and will be allowing volunteers to resume volunteer activities as approved by the administration.
This is certainly great news. I am thankful that we are starting to see light at the end of this long dark Covid tunnel. We will be following our social distancing in classes and other mitigating strategies that are in place but we will not be requiring masks.
