Jessica Colucci

Class of 2003

Where do you currently live?

Milford, CT

What is your current job/year in school?

What was your educational path after graduating from St. Mary School?

I went to Lauralton Hall (2007) then Sacred Heart University, from which I graduated in 2011. I am graduating with my Master’s Degree in Secondary Education in August of this year from Sacred Heart. I’m also a member of Pi Lambda Sigma, an academic sorority for honors students.

How do you feel SMS prepared you academically?

If I didn’t go to Saint Mary’s there’s no way I would have survived Lauralton. My whole Freshman year felt like a review of things we’ve already learned in 8th grade. The only aspect of high school I had to worry about was which activities in which I should be involved. The rigor of material at Saint Mary’s was something I always appreciated because without I would not have done as well as I did in my academic career and therefore, would not be where I am today.

Do you feel SMS provided you with a foundation for your future?

If I wasn’t for SMS I wouldn’t know a great majority of the things I know now, which have enabled me to get this far in my education. I wouldn’t know parts of speech, how to write a proper essay, or how to speak in front of people. All of these things are vital parts of my life, especially when studying to be an English teacher.

What are some of your favorite memories of SMS?

I think the most memorable parts of going to SMS are just the times when I was able to spend with my friends. Being on the basketball team and in the drama club are definitely up there on the list of best times I’ve had there. I loved playing in games, especially ones in the SMS tournament, and performing on stage. When asked about my favorite teachers my mind doesn’t go to college or even high school but straight back to the years leading up to 9th grade.

What are your plans for the future?

Right now I’m interning at West Haven High School and I just finished student teaching there. I am planning on getting certified as a Secondary English teacher and hope to find a job at West Haven for the fall. I will be graduating in August with my masters degree from Sacred Heart.
